Apple iPhone ahead of Motorola, Microsoft phones in Q4

The research estimates that the iPhone had 28 percent of the US converged-device market in the fourth quarter of 2007. Windows Mobile phones had 21 percent share of devices sold in the quarter, falling into third place behind Apple.

Apple had stirred interest in smart phones in the US Converged-device shipments, which consists of smart phones and wireless handhelds, which grew 222 percent in the U.S. during the quarter, according to Canalys.

Globally, the market position is different. Nokia sold 52.9 percent of smart phones worldwide in the fourth quarter. RIM grew up 121 percent over the same quarter in 2006. On the other hand, Apple holds third place by capturing 6.5 percent of the market, beating Motorola by few percents.

The Apple iPhone is doing well in Europe, Middle East and Africa region. Apple holds fifth rank with Nokia, RIM, HTC and Motorola among the top players.

Nokia – THE Mobile Handset Monster
In 2007 global handset shipment were at a mind-boggling 1.15 billion handsets
In Q4 2007, the total shipment from the Finnish major increased to 133.5 million units, up 19.5 percent from 111.7 in Q3, giving NOKIA (I feel the name should be YES-KIYA, Kiya – ‘doing in Hindi’) a whopping 39.5% market share. The dominance of NOKIA can be gauged by the fact that NOKIA’s market share of 39.5% is close to the combined market share of 41.9% of the next 4 of Top 5 mobile handset players.
For the full 2007 year NOKIA sold 437 million units globally commanding a 38% market share, almost 3 times the closet competitor (SAMSUNG).

Q4 shipment at 40.9 million, up 9.9% from 37.2 million in Q3

Q4 market share at 12.1 %, down from 12.7 % in Q3 2007 and 22.6% in Q4 2006

For the entire year 2007 the total shipment at 159 million giving it a market share of 13.8%. It is down by a whopping 8% from 22% in 2006

Q4 shipment at 30.8 million, up18.9% from 25.9 million in Q3. The onle player in the top 5 list apart from NOKIA registering a growth rate better than the industry rate.
